Director’s Cut Sets Stage for FFVII Rebirth Release
In anticipation of the February 29, 2024 release of FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH, Square Enix, together with Sony Pictures and Fathom Events, is re-releasing FINAL FANTASY VII: ADVENT CHILDREN COMPLETE in U.S. theaters on February 21 and 22. This director’s cut version of the popular CGI film extends the narrative of the original FINAL FANTASY VII game, offering 26 extra minutes and approximately a thousand revised scenes.
The limited theatrical release is significant not only for the enhanced director’s cut but also for its timing, strategically placed ahead of the launch of FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH. This game, part of the FINAL FANTASY VII remake series, is a result of the ongoing collaboration between Sony and Square Enix. It leverages Sony’s advanced technology, including features optimized for PlayStation 5 and Sony BRAVIA XR TVs, designed to enhance the gaming experience.
Attendees of the film will experience unique content, including a historical overview of FINAL FANTASY VII‘s impact and connections with ADVENT CHILDREN. Most notably, they will get a preview of gameplay from FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH and insights from key figures in the franchise’s development.
FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH continues the journey from the acclaimed “FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE”, introducing new characters and narratives while expanding upon the world beyond Midgar. The game has been recognized as the “Most Anticipated Game” of 2024 at The Game Awards, highlighting its broad appeal and the high expectations of the gaming community.
The upcoming release of FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH follows the success of FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, launched in 2020. On the other hand, the original FINAL FANTASY VII, released in 1997, has been a cornerstone in the RPG genre. The series’ ongoing success and influence in the gaming world are marked by its expansion into various media, including films and merchandise. The FINAL FANTASY series as a whole has been a flagship for Square Enix, with the franchise achieving over 185 million units sold worldwide.
