Resident Evil 4 dials up the scares with its VR mode today; update is free to download for those who already own the game
The virtual reality mode for Capcom’s remake of Resident Evil 4 is now available, giving PlayStation VR2 owners the chance to fully immerse themselves in the game’s terrifying world.
Now available on the PlayStation Store as a free download for players who already own Resident Evil 4, it allows players to experience the entire game from start to finish in VR, with immersive reloads and updated inputs for puzzle solving to help pull you into the action like never before. These changes, combined with the headset’s impressive 4K HDR display and atmospheric 3D audio, aim to enhance the horrifying title in a way that should breathe new life into Leon’s rescue mission.

For those who’ve yet to get their hands on Resident Evil 4 and want to see what this update is all about, you’re in luck. A demo of the VR mode is now available to download from the PlayStation Store, allowing players to experience the opening segment and come to grips with Leon’s arsenal of weapons in the shooting gallery.
This isn’t the first time Resident Evil 4 has made the jump to the realm of virtual reality. In 2021, Armature Studio partnered with Capcom and Oculus Studios to bring the game to the Meta Quest 2, and it was an exceptional effort that’s become, at least in my eyes, the ideal way to experience the game. That said, given how outstanding last year’s Resident Evil Village VR turned out, owners of Sony’s new headset have plenty of reasons to be excited for the Resident Evil 4 remake’s VR mode when it launches today.
