Star Ocean: The Second Story R-Claude Introduction Guide – A Hero’s Journey Begins
After enjoying the game’s opening animation, narrated by Claude, you’ll start off on the planet where you witnessed the object make a crash landing. Once everything gets started, you will go through another section of talking where Claude, Ronyx, and some of the Calnus crew make their way to the anomaly. At this point, after a little conversation, your father arms you with the “Phase Gun Special Art”.
Once you gain control of Claude, make your way to the ! symbol and investigate the obvious-looking panel to gain entry. After a bit of chit-chatting, you’ll be thrust through a small scene change where you once again have control of Claude, this time inside the crash site.
Head straight back, where you will see your father and another crew mate standing in front of some damaged machine. Make your way toward the machine, where we get another scene, which leads to Claude getting teleported….somewhere, and here is where the journey begins.
After being teleported to god knows where Claude wakes up in the middle of a forest and obviously has no clue how he got there. Another small scene will play out where you’ll run into a random girl walking in the woods who then gets attacked by a random monster, and of course, you will get into a quick fight where you can easily Phase Gun this guy to death.
When the fight is over, you’ll gain control again, and you should make your way to the right. There, you’ll find a chest containing 300 Fol, which will come in handy. Once you’ve gathered the contents, move over to the left path, where you’ll meet the young lady who ran away after you saved her.
However, before you get to her, make sure you take the path leading up to another chest containing Fruit Syrup x1. After meeting with and being introduced to the game’s other protagonist, Rena Lanford, you’ll go through yet another small scene where you are led to the town of Arlia. Head towards Arlia in order for another cutscene to take place, and from there, you can either explore the village or just head straight towards the northeastern ! symbol, aka Rena’s House. More scenes will play out where we are introduced to Rena’s mother, Westa.
If you choose to explore first, head over towards the church located slightly to your right and head up the stairs to the third floor, where you’ll find a chest with Magic Canvas x1 and a ladder. There’s nothing up there, so you can head back outside. After the church, head straight ahead, where you will see a house with a save point next to it; take the time to check on the second floor, where you will find two chests, one containing a Blueberry x1 and the other with Blackberries x1. Once you’re done in the love-struck newlyweds’ home, head over to the right, where there will be a shop you can’t access just yet. Instead, open up the three chests sitting right in front containing 250 Fol, Leather Armor, and Resurrection Elixir x1. From there, keep right and head into the next home in order to grab the chest containing the Strawberry Jam x1 and continue on. The other entrances you see are just to Mayor Regis’ House, and there’s nothing in there for you to find and no reason to go in there for now.
If you decide to head straight to Rena’s home, you can just follow the steps above after you gain control again while Rena shows you around the village. While she’s showing you around, don’t skip out on our first Unique Spot- Rustic Waterwheel, which nets you 50 XP and Resurrection Elixir x2. You can find it just across the bridge behind Rena’s house. After you’ve visited all the homes with the ! symbol and learn about the town, head back to Rena’s and get ready for another conversation scene.
Once you finish up with dinner, you’ll gain control of Claude for a tiny bit. Here, you’ll just exit the room, try and enter Rena’s room, and then try and make your way downstairs. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to do either, so it’s just best to head back to your room. As you make your way back, an interaction with Westa and Mayor Regis will commence. Here, you’ll learn about the Hero of Light as well as the plight plaguing the world in the form of the Sorcery Globe.
After a long night, you’ll rest at the mayor’s house, and once you awake in the morning, head downstairs and have a little chat with him. During this convo, the mayor will tell you to visit the town of Salva and hand you a Longsword to help you along on your journeys. When you leave the mayor’s house, you can now either choose to head straight to Salva or you can take the opportunity to visit the Sacred Forest and take part in a Limited Time Scene involving Rena. You can also use this as an opportunity to power up.
Now that the scene conversation between you and Rena is over, you can head on out. Once you exit the village, look to the southeast, where you will find a chest with Blueberries x5. Afterward, head north until you see a split off towards the left and follow this trail down towards a small section of beach. There, you will see a chest containing a Talisman x1. Head back to the path and continue north until you reach the town of Salva.
Once inside Salva, it’s pretty much an in-and-out job since there isn’t much happening at the moment. Head straight to the ! symbol and enter the mansion. Speak with the butler pacing by the statue, and he will inform you about the young master being out at the moment. After speaking with him, head back outside, where another scene takes place. After everything is over, you’ll gain access to fast travel, so go ahead and travel back to Arlia. As soon as you arrive, you’ll jump into yet another scene where you’re informed of Rena’s kidnapping by her childhood friend Allen. After being filled in, head on back to Salva using your trusty fast travel. When you are back at Salva, head directly to the mansion where a scene will play out. During this moment, Claude loses the use of the Phase Gun, which really blows, given it’s so darn powerful. Once you’re inside, head upstairs and grab the chest with Talisman x1 located in the bottom left room.
Head back down the stairs and talk to the butler again. Head towards the room on the right, where you’ll find Rena’s hairpin. Examine the golden statue, and the secret path to Salva Mines will be revealed. Here is where we will encounter our first true test.
