Book of Esoteric Revelations
Greetings, Travelers! We’ll be taking a look at a little unmarked quest you can pick up in the Merusea Village that will have you looking into a very strange tome one of the Melusine villagers named Canotila found that was left behind by a scholar. It’s the only book amongst many that Canotila just cannot parse, leaving it to the Traveler’s puzzle-solving capabilities to figure out. You’ll want to have at least done the Ancient Colors questline up until you’re needing Strange Parts, something that this quest does give out, plus it’ll help with navigation.
First and foremost, you’ll want to be in the Merusea Village to find Canotila, who’ll just be marked as “???” until you strike up a conversation with her.
For the first step, you’ll want to go where the book you’re looking to decipher is. The waypoints will guide you to a pool that normally has a boulder covering up a hole. Canotila will sort that out during the cutscene you have with her once you’re there. Dive on in, and you’ll arrive at a tome with a rather ominous-looking hex underneath it.
After talking with Canotila some more about the book, your next task will be to find the pages you’ll need to flesh this book out a bit more. There are three pages in total you’ll need to get. The first one is just outside that chamber, in “A Very Warm Place.”
You’ll stand in the white circle and strike the prism, which will send a shockwave over to the large crystal the arrow’s pointing at. Make sure you have the prism and large crystal lined up so the shockwave goes in the right direction. Pick up the page out of the chest and head on to the second page location to the north.
The second location will introduce you to Beastly Rifts if you haven’t already stumbled upon one before.
When you step into the ring and begin the challenge, you’ll have three crystals you’ll need to keep enemies from pounding on. For this particular ring, you’ll be up against 13 Thundercraven Rifthound Whelps and 1 Thundercraven Rifthound. Once those are dealt with, grab the chest that spawns in the middle, and you’ll be able to head off for the last page.
The last page is easily accessable by heading to the waypoint closest to the circle and then following the ruined roadway into the mountain.
The page you’re looking for will be in a chest near the entrance, but you’ll have a few enemies to take care of first, consisting of 1 Thundercraven Rifthound Whelp, 1 Thundercraven Rifthound, and 1 Rockfond Rifthound Whelp.
Now that you have all three pages, make your way back to Canotila and the odd book. You’ll go through a cutscene, then be whisked away to a very ominous-looking pocket dimension. So this place is a bit of a broken-up mess, but the path isn’t as complicated as it looks.
First, head toward the ruined archway you can see in the image above. You’ll have a little bit of dialogue showing which way Canotila is going from here. Keep following that road until you get to a black portal that snaps open when you approach it.
Follow that to the next island, where you’ll see Canotila running into a large, crumbling room. Make a right in there to keep progressing.
If you see two Hilichurls chilling near the edge of the broken highway, you’re going the right way. Keep following that until you’re at the point shown below.
Go into that rift, and you’ll pop out near the entrance to a tower. Follow the staircase up, and, again, you’ll see flashes of a vanishing Canotila. Head over to examine a book to trigger a cutscene, then use the rift that appears in the middle of that room. You’ll be propelled to the highest point of the area, on top of a large ruined structure.
Be warned that once you go through the rift, you’ll go up against a singular Thundercraven Rifthound. Once that’s been dealt with, you’ll go through another cutscene before finally getting your ticket out of here. Go into the last, nearby rift, and you’ll be ejected from this odd dimension and meet up with Canotila. Once more, you’ll go through a cutscene, then be treated to your reward and the quest’s end.
That’s all for this guide, but be sure to stay tuned for more of the latest Genshin Impact news and guides!
