The Behemoth Is Coming!
Back in the day, The Behemoth practically ruled PAX West. They always went out of their way to feature amazing booths with custom arcade machines, plentiful merch and simply awesome advertising for the company. Which is why I was so disappointed to see them disappear for a couple years. But now, they’ve made a triumphant comeback at PAX West 2023, and I got to check out upcoming title Alien Hominid Invasion!
Alien Hominid not only was my first experience with The Behemoth, but it’s also their very first game. Now it’s getting a new adventure in Alien Hominid Invasion, and it takes all the mayhem from the original and adds plenty of new twists and turns. You’re part of an invading force trying to gather intel on human defenses. The game also features some mild rogue style mechanics, with the levels being a little different every time you play. If that wasn’t enough, there’s also lots of upgrades, both cosmetic and otherwise, to keep fans playing.
If you want an idea how Invasion differs from the original, here’s a good snapshot:
In Alien Hominid Invasion, the alien will now have a health bar instead of the previous title’s one-shot kill mechanic, giving more people the ability to approach the game and fight back against the agents. Players will have much more customization options this time around; the alien’s head, pigment, and gun are equipable from earned loot! Up to four players can join the invasion, with a new functionality allowing participants to play across skill gaps by choosing their own difficulty. Hardcore fans and lore enthusiasts can look forward to learning more about what happened to the original alien, where the agents came from, and why there is such an intense hunt for the aliens.
If that’s not exciting enough, Invasion’s release will coincide with the release of Alien Hominid HD on new consoles later this year! And that’s something to get hyped for. The demo I played was fast paced and chaotic, with my alien buddy running and gunning, leaping on human heads and generally being a spanner in the works. I had a helpful healing grenade and freeze shots I used to blaze a streak of devastation. At least until I got to the boss of the demo.
The easiest way to describe the boss was a robotic luchador. The bad bot would often hurl suplexes my way, shoot projectiles and generally made life difficult. Then when I thought the fight was over, it grew a fin and started attacking even more fiercely. I nearly beat it before the luchador took my alien to the mat.
I had a fantastic time playing Alien Hominid Invasion, and think you’ll enjoy it as well later this year. It’s slated to release on PC, Switch and Xbox. And if you missed the game that started it all, Alien Hominid HD will also be coming to Steam, Xbox and Switch very soon! If you need more reasons to get excited, just check out the trailer below.
