Getting Physical: Big Adventures with Miniature Heroes in Tinykin

Make My Adventure Mini!

It’s always fun to start the new year with some new games. Though as someone that’s a bit of a collector, “new” can be a very relative term. Especially where physical editions are concerned. But if it’s new to me that’s good enough, which brings us to the first Getting Physical of 2024 – a game called Tinykin! Developed by Splashteam and originally published by tinyBuild, it’s somewhat like Pikmin, but nevertheless bursting with great style of its own. And now, thanks to Super Rare Games, it’s finally available physically.

Tinykin | Bubble Wrap Back

First, a quick note. Though the folks at Super Rare Games are generally very good at getting their orders shipped in a reasonable amount of time, Tinykin took a bit longer than usual. The order window opened up at the end of November 2023, and I just received the game a couple days ago. By contrast, it’s not unusual for me to receive most SRG games a mere month after ordering them. Though the wait was a little disappointing, I attribute it to the holidays and a more taxed than usual postal system. With that out of the way, let’s talk about why this is a great addition to any collection.

Tinykin | Sticker and Pack

Tinykin is all about a young astronaut named Milo who arrives on Earth, only to find himself shrunk down and everybody else missing. That is, other than the creepy crawlies that threaten him, and the titular Tinykin. With their help, Milo will have to investigate the overarching mystery and also puzzle his way to new locales. Different Tinykin have different abilities, and you’ll need to make smart use of them to progress the main storyline and tackle optional side quests.

Tinykin | Sheathe Front

One of my favorite things about the game is the cartoony aesthetic, which is wholly its own and not at all reminiscent of the Pikmin games. But that’s probably not what you’re here for, given that the game launched digitally on Switch back in August of 2022. You probably want to know about how cool the physical edition of Tinykin is. So let’s touch on that next.

Tinykin | Unpacked

Like usual, this edition from Super Rare Games comes tightly packed in a cardboard, bubble wrap sandwich. The outer shell of cardboard is layered for protection, and the game and contents themselves are inside a plastic sleeve which is fully encased in a bubble envelope. Once out of that safely, there’s a sticker that seals the plastic sleeve, which I promptly tore to get to the goodies inside.

Tinykin | Game and Manual

Inside is the game case, a safety card, additional sticker and pack of cards. Though I didn’t get any super glossy cards this time around, I was happy with the three random ones I pulled. Also, the manual is full of neat little details about the game and its miniature inhabitants, though this package doesn’t feature anything quite as fancy as the fold out map included with the physical edition of Haiku, the Robot. The game case itself is quite colorful, and looks great stacked with my other physical Switch games.

Overall this is another stellar physical edition from Super Rare Games, which always does short print runs of all their physical editions, no matter which console they’re printed for. If you’re at all a fan of collecting rare editions, be sure to check them out. And stay tuned to HPP for more neat physical acquisitions!
