Throughout the history of video games, billions of lives have been lost for a limitless amount of reasons. But thankfully, some games are a bit more lenient in granting players a bit of a boost to help them complete their quest. Just a little bit of help can go a long way – especially when it comes to the “old-school” challenge of NES games. Here I want to focus on power-ups that I believe help the player most when completing games from the NES’ library. For this, the term “power-ups” can be either an item that grants the player an enhanced ability or an item the player can use to increase their attack power.
